Value creation for businesses has utilized data for a long time. Nowadays, it is an essential part of businesses’ strategies. With the increase of data usage in value creation within businesses, and it being an everyday activity, it is not a sufficient way of creating value. Businesses should look into value creation in ecosystems – co-creating with others. These ecosystems with data sharing are labeled as Data Spaces.
Data Spaces Support Centre (DSSC) describes it as:
“A distributed system defined by a governance framework that enables secure and trustworthy data transactions between participants while supporting trust and data sovereignty. A data space is implemented by one or more infrastructures and enables one or more use cases.” (Data Space Alliance)
As said in European Comission news, Data Spaces enable sharing and re-using data within and across various sectors. The goal in EU is to build a globally competitive data market, which will eventually lead to an increase in the usage and demand of data and data-enabled products and services.
DSSC (Data Spaces Support Centre) provides a blueprint to guide organizations in building and participating in Data Spaces. To learn more about the blueprint, visit DSSC’s website
In the space of developing data economy technologies in the EU, Finland has been one of the leading countries. To aid the challenge of adding value to the data economy technologies, the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment has launched a Data economy growth programme.
The common European mobility data space (EMDS) aims to facilitate data access, pooling and sharing. The deployEMDS, an EU funded project, supports policymaking by enabling data sharing and reuse for efficient multimodal mobility and traffic management, as well as for measuring progress of sustainable urban mobility across Europe. The project actively supports real-life implementation projects in nine EU cities including Tampere and build a decentralized technical infrastructure and common governance mechanisms for trusted and secure data sharing.
